In March 1970, Paris initiated an amateur photography contest titled C’était Paris en 1970 to document the city before extensive urban development. Photographers captured images of 1,755 squares across the city in May 1970, with some of these photographs now on display at the Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris until October 2026.
